BIOGRAPHY
Like most kids raised in early-80s-era Los Angeles, Bucky was brought up on a healthy diet of skateboarding, junk food and teenage anxiety. He was able to translate this lifestyle into graphic design starting with adverts and t-shirts for local bands then on to art direction for the Girl and Chocolate Skateboard Companies. During this stint at Girl, Bucky was simultaneously studying at the California Institute of the Arts. It was at Girl and Chocolate where he worked closely with skate and BMX culture luminaries, Andy Jenkins and Spike Jonze and it was at CalArts that he befriended and subsequently worked with Geoff McFetridge (Champion Graphics) and Jonathan Notaro (Brand New School.)
Moving on from the world of skateboarding, Bucky began to work tirelessly as a motion graphics designer, branding consultant and convergence media specialist for FUEL Inc., creating award-winning work for ESPN, UPS, MTV, X-Games and many others. As it was the early 2000’s a corporate merge between FUEL and Razorfish, Inc. brought Bucky into the realm of new media with focus on technology and entertainment. This of course “sucked.”
Freelance work followed his corporate experiences working with motion graphics companies such as Brand New School, Logan, Blind, National Television and others around the Los Angeles area. During this time, a recommendation of Johannes Gamble (fellow Calarts class mate and Girl employee), Bucky was commissioned to design the DVD design and function for Roman Coppola’s feature film CQ. This led him to The Directors Bureau and shortly signed on the roster as a director with Johannes as the AV CLUB. Shortly after he moved on his own under his own name. Also during this time, Bucky along with Brumby Boylston and Brian Won of National Television began development for the pilot of Troy Ride, an animated series at Disney.
Bucky is currently most commended for his work with British pop-icon Morrissey after helming six music videos and two feature length concert films. Recently he directed music videos for St. Vincent and electro-iconoclast Peaches, as well as commercial spots for DVS Shoe Company and HP. He maintains collaborations with the likes of director Arya Senboutaraj and fellow Bureau directors Andy Bruntel and Roman Coppola. He also continues to develop and execute projects with Colin Kennedy, former head of DVS film department and now for The Berrics and with the online live music channel, Dig For Fire TV.
